Practical Worship 20

Rick Warren summarizes this devotional with some practical thoughts and questions. What does God expect us to do with our daily lives? What tensions do we have between conformity to the world and transformation to God’s character? How is God’s Word transforming the way you or I see ourselves?

Each day seems to present new challenges with this tension. I’m constantly trying to break free from bad habits, a negative view of God’s sovereignty, a negative view of myself, or the world’s trash talk. The giants in my mind must be defeated if I want to humble myself into obedience to Him. If God is loving and truly cares, my life should live accordingly.

Two quotes from Francis Chan’s ‘Crazy Love’:

If God is truly the greatest good on this earth, would He be loving us if He didn’t draw us toward what is best for us (even if that happens to be Himself)? Doesn’t His courting, luring, pushing, calling, and even “threatening” demonstrate His love? If He didn’t do all of that, wouldn’t we accuse Him of being unloving in the end, when all things are revealed?

Has your relationship with God actually changed the way you live? Do you see evidence of God’s kingdom in your life? Or are you choking it out slowly by spending too much time, energy, money, and thought on the things of this world?
