Christmas 12/15

Our American way of celebrating Christmas seem counter cultural to the way it was at the time of Fis birth  the glitz, lights and music do not match the smell and quietness of the stable. The humility and poverty of His birth strike me that God’s sovereign power is wrapped in His powerful humility to help us surrender to His will.  We are not forced to obey and we are not robotic in our response to Him

“He was born in an animal shed to an unwed mother from a backwater town. His entourage at birth consisted of shepherds and farm animals. He didn't overthrow the Romans, though He was and is sovereign over emperors. He didn't come with military might, though He is the Lord of hosts and could call down 12 legions of angels at any time. He didn't establish a mighty nation or people in His lifetime, though His kingdom shall last forever, and every knee shall bow to Him.

Jesus Christ was the Messiah who would set His people from every tribe, tongue, and nation free. He would rescue us from the curse of Genesis and all the effects of sin on the world. He came to undo the curse, to redeem and renew, and finally, to make all things.” - Barnabas Piper

“Why did God go so far (at Bethlehem)? He wants you to know that he gets you. He feels what you feel and has faced what you face.

A chief reason is this: he wants you to know that he gets you. He understands how you feel and has faced what you face. Jesus is not “out of touch with our reality.” - Max Lucado, Because of Bethlehem
