Having a routine reduces anxiety. The routine of eating right, sleep habits, Bible reading, or exercise can each bring a sense of normalcy, even during the chaos. Building new routines takes an intentional effort but it’s worth the time invested. A psychologist I sometimes read up on says that the discipline of journal writing each day will change thinking patterns. Her research indicates that 21 days of consistent journal writing and personal reflection will establish the habit but 63 days of consistent writing will change thinking patterns. Concentrated effort brings greater reward than hoping to change an area of our lives.
