Advent 6

The negative news creates a lot of fear in my mind. This is a daily battle, not just with the news, but with the mess that many make for themselves. Their mess spills over into making a mess of my thinking. Developing the daily discipline of reading God’s Word keeps His words fresh in my mind, helping me to be more alert when the devil is prowling. If I’m consuming the news or listening to others’ negativity more than I’m letting God work in me, I’m allowing the devil to sit with me. He truly is the Shepherd we need and I pray that He becomes more important to us each day. The nine words of the devotional - don’t give the enemy a seat at your table - should be in neon lights.  The Holy Spirit’s presence nor God’s word will ever lead us in the wrong direction or discourage us.

“A counselor, David Seamands, summed up his career this way:       Many years ago I was driven to the conclusion that the two major causes of most emotional problems among evangelical Christians are these: the failure to understand, receive, and live out God’s unconditional grace and forgiveness; and the failure to give out that unconditional love, forgiveness, and grace to other people. . . . We read, we hear, we believe a good theology of grace. But that’s not the way we live. The good news of the Gospel of grace has not penetrated the level of our emotions.” - Philip Yancey, What's So Amazing About Grace?
