Path 4

Reading and reflecting on Jesus’s words and the reaction before the crucifixion being a contrast to what our world teaches. We often adopt the cultural standards of success and comparison to the being in church rather than a call to be selfless. Caiaphas seems to represent a lot our world’s values. He didn’t want to make the Romans mad nor did he want to acknowledge the wisdom and authority of Jesus. Getting rid of Jesus would solve the problems in that moment. But for our moments of chaos and turmoil, we need Jesus as our model of wisdom and authority to guide our decisions, not the cultural rules of power, possessions and prestige.

Those who aren't following Jesus aren't his followers. It's that simple. Followers follow, and those who don't follow aren't followers. To follow Jesus means to follow Jesus into a society where justice rules, where love shapes everything. To follow Jesus means to take up his dream and work for it.” - Scot McKnight, One.Life: Jesus Calls, We Follow
