Today’s devo was written prior to Christmas, not Easter. I guess…substitute the seasons!
Regardless, the lesson for me is timeless and applies everyday to ordinary situations. If I’m not walking the talk, my words fall on deaf ears. If I’m sitting on my perch judging what should be done, but I’m doing very little, I could be a hypocrite. If I’m walking the talk, but never verbalizing hope, others might think I’m just promoting my good works with a selfish purpose. In today’s world, many are the criticisms, requiring us to clearly communicate how much we love Jesus and how we are learning to love others. Its not all up to our own willpower, because the Spirit will take care of the rough edges if we follow His lead.
“If we are to love our neighbors, before doing anything else we must see our neighbors. With our imagination as well as our eyes, that is to say like artists, we must see not just their faces but the life behind and within their faces. Here it is love that is the frame we see them in.” - Frederick Buechner, Whistling in the Dark
“If we want to experience and enjoy the love of God in our own hearts, we must love others, even to the point of sacrifice. Being indifferent to a brother’s needs means robbing ourselves of what we need even more: the love of God in our hearts. It is a matter of love or death!” - Excerpt, Be Real (1 John) by Warren W. Wiersbe
