Easter 19

What is your view of what happened on Good Friday?  What good took place that it is called ‘good’?  How do we celebrate the execution of the perfect human that ever lived?  For me the pure washing of His blood to cleanse me from my sin and selfishness needs to be a reminder, not just once a year, but everyday. We cannot save ourselves from our narcissistic twists. We need a Savior who gives us new life, not just for after own own earthly death, but for the here and now.

“The enemy of mankind lies in his own heart. That’s what has to be dealt with. And so Jesus very carefully planned his death.  You don’t want to think of Jesus as a victim. Pilate was not in charge, and the high priest were not in charge.

But Jesus was in charge. And he had this carefully worked out with the other members of the Trinitarian community, and he said, “No man takes my life from me. I lay down my life.”

Paul stated,  ‘May it never be that I should boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.’

It is the doorway into the life that God intended for human beings. It is the doorway into eternal life, into a life beyond this life which strangely is now present within this life, an eternal kind of life that we take with us wherever we go. And it’s a real presence and power that enables us to achieve the goodness of God in human life that is laid out in Jesus and in His teachings.” - The Dallas Willard Podcast: 32. “Sunday Is Coming”, Phil Wickham

A great light dawns in Galilee

Some say mad man

Some say King

Wonder working rebel priest

Jesus Christ the Nazarene

He knew well what it would take

To free us all from sin and grave

A perfect man would have to die

And only He could pay that price

Friday's good 'cause Sunday is coming

Don't lose hope 'cause Sunday is coming

Devil, you're done, you better start running

Friday's good 'cause Sunday is coming

So He let those soldiers take Him in

As His friend betrayed Him with a kiss

There before the mocking crowd

Like a lamb to the slaughter didn't make a sound

Then He carried that cross to Calvary

And He shed His blood to set us free

As the nails went in and the sky went dark

The redemption of the world was on His heart

Friday's good 'cause Sunday is coming

Don't lose hope 'cause Sunday is coming

Devil, you're done, you better start running

Friday's good 'cause Sunday is coming

Then He breathed His last

And bowed His head

The Son of God and man was dead

With bloody hands

Tears on their face

They laid Him down

Inside that grave

But that wasn't the end

That wasn't the end

That wasn't the end

Let me tell you what happened next

The women came before the dawn

To find that stone already gone

When they looked inside, the angel said

"Why you looking for the living among the dead?"

He's alive

He's alive

Hallelujah, He's alive

Give Him praise

Lift Him high

Hallelujah, He's alive
