Mark 3-19

Mark’s description of what happened between the non Jewish woman and Jesus probably leaves out a few details. Jesus seemed a bit short with her but we do not know all the details. Her persistence and belief in Jesus comes through Mark’s words strong and clear. I wonder if my pleas and questions to our Triune God are half hearted and weak at best, compared to her desperate quest. May you I develop an allegiance to Jesus like we have never had before, that we will be totally dependent on Him.

“The woman’s response suggests that his tone was not harsh, condemning, or sarcastic but was rather playful. She took the cue and responded to him with his own words. “Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs” (Mark 7:28). The dogs do, in fact, share the children’s food, even if it is just the crumbs that fall from the table.

Jesus validated the woman’s response “for saying that” (Mark 7:29). The woman understood how a family pet was treated. She also understood what the disciples did not. The kingdom was for the Gentiles too. “You may go—the demon has left your daughter” (Mark 7:29). When the woman got home, she found her daughter had been healed, the demon cast out.” - Excerpt, Following Jesus: Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark by Steve Langford

“I think that we have to understand that God is the kind of God who always has his eye on those who fear him and those who love him, and his ear, the psalmist says, is always open to their cry.” - From The Dallas Willard Podcast: #21. The Life We are Given in Christ (1993), Feb 3, 2025
