A Heart For God 3/24

Questions to consider:

  1. Why is it so easy to think that programs and projects are important priorities to change the world?

  2. How have you found that the biggest things in life are the small decisions we make each day?

‭‭ ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:4-6‬ (‭MSG‬‬)

“I suspect you would never intend this, but this is what happens. When you attempt to live by your own religious plans and projects, you are cut off from Christ, you fall out of grace. Meanwhile we expectantly wait for a satisfying relationship with the Spirit. For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love.”

COVID seems to have revealed a lot of truth about us, even with conspiracy theories and fake news. I used to trust that programs and projects would make significant changes in our culture. With the right funding and promotion, the data would eventually prove the effectiveness of our efforts. But fewer people are willing to participate in traditional programs without knowing if an effort really matters. Blind trust has been replaced with suspicion. I want to be authentic and real without any pretense of a hidden agenda. God’s economy is not ‘you get what you pay for’ or a cash exchange. His way of doing business involves the heart, beginning with a small flame that can be flames with an incomparable love.

We forget that God's primary goal is not changing our situations or relationships so that we can be happy, but changing us through our situations and relationships so that we will be holy.
