It's not that we're called to be Joshuas and possess the land. It's that we follow the ultimate Joshua who possesses our hearts & every land already. Christ did this not by violence but by enduring injustice from others to free us from our addiction to hate.
It's not that we're called to be Davids and find Goliaths to slay. It's that we have a Greater David who slew an even greater enemy, death itself, to free us to follow in his triumph as people of mercy for all.
It's not that we're to be as wise as Solomon, but that we're fools smart enough to see a Greater than Solomon has come & wisely rules all.
It's not that we're called to be Nehemiahs and restore the broken walls as much as we are called to see the ultimate Nehemiah who left the palace to journey into our disaster and rose after three days to rebuild our brokenness, bringing grace, freedom, and true security
Once a man was asked “What did you gain by regularly praying to God?”The man replied, “Little. But let me tell you what I lost: anger, ego, depression, insecurity, and fear of death.”
Sometimes the answer to our prayers is not gaining but losing.
