The definition of shrewd: having powers of judgment, to be astute, sharp-witted, intelligent, clever, canny, sagacious, perceptive and savvy. Being shrewd is hyper-vigilant, guarded, calculating, astute. Be marked by a practical and hard-headed intelligence. BE SHREWD! But is shrewdness as important as being innocent, kind and patient? “Be shrewd as a serpent, yet innocent as a dove.” Matthew 10:16.
Do I give myself permission to be shrewd and calculating? Or have I placed more emphasis on developing a character of being innocent and kind? I think the Bible is emphasizing gathering as much information as possible to make wise decision for God’s honor it’s wisely calculating opportunities and risks, especially with family matters. It’s considering the attacks of evil that can demoralize and discourage yet considering the opportunities to share who our Savior is.
