Gratitude 3

The Hebrews refused to listen to Samuel or to God. They wanted to be like everyone else and have an earthly king. We are just one generation away from forgetting to trust in an eternal King if the present generation doesn’t live as subjects to King Jesus.  Compromising to present day idols, serving politics, possessions or power rather than surrendering to a higher authority is no way to live, yet it’s happening all around us. Our cushy life minimizes the need to trust and obey. It’s not popular to live a radical life for King Jesus

“Jesus was not crucified for being a good citizen, for being just a little nicer than everyone else. The powers of his day correctly saw him and his followers as subversives because they took orders from a higher power than Rome or Jerusalem. What would a subversive church look like in the modern United States?” - Philip Yancey, Grace Notes: Daily Readings with Philip Yancey
