Unto Us 1

The Roman oppression and rule of law at the time Jesus was born allowed few freedoms. Resentment and the desire for rebellion was strong while the Romans were vigilant to crush any conspiracy to not follow the law. The hope for a Messiah by the Jews was for a king to bring freedom from the oppression. But God’s intervention to bring a King in the genealogy of David was to overturn the ruthless rule of our selfishness and idolatry. We need King Jesus today in the here and now moments of our lives just as much as in the first century.

“Yes, it is true: that night the angels began a song that will never ever end. The Savior who rescued your heart now claims your song. Have you joined the choir?” - Paul David Tripp, Come, Let Us Adore Him: A Daily Advent Devotional
