Renovation 5

Trying harder to be a good Christian doesn’t work. Each day I need to choose whether I’m going to ‘try’ to be a better person or whether I’m going to surrender to Him and rely on His grace moment by moment. It’s easy to give up on certain projects, people, or cultural trends, thinking that making another attempt to make a difference is useless. But God is certainly giving us enough evidence that He is at work changing g lives and moving events into place for His purpose. A politician recently told a church gathering that …”it’s useless to turn the other cheek, and it’s time to quit being nice”. Trusting God’s way of doing life is needed now just as it always has been. What He is doing is beyond our physical sight, but obvious in God’s word.

To “grow in grace” means to utilize more and more grace to live by, until everything we do is assisted by grace. Then, whatever we do in word or deed will all be done in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17). The greatest saints are not those who need less grace, but those who consume the most grace, who indeed are most in need of grace—those who are saturated by grace in every dimension of their being. Grace to them is like breath.” - Dallas Willard, Renovation of the Heart: Putting On the Character of Christ
