The woman at the well knew a lot about theology. She wasn’t a loose woman as I previously imagined. She has been victimized by her culture and perhaps life itself. Perhaps the husbands she had were deceased and she was a follower of cultural customs. She knew about the promise of the Messiah and was amazed that Jesus knew her life. The geographic spot was Jacob’s well, and was the same site that Dinah has been victimized by Jacob’s son. Jesus chose to be in Samaria with His disciples to demonstrate that He was the Messiah for all people, not just the Jews.
