Another Kind of Life

Read aloud Luke 8:1-3 & Matthew 13:1-23. Have a lifegroup member retell the passages in his/her own words. Have listeners fill in key missing elements.

2. What do the passages teach us about God and people? Each person has a unique receptivity or hardness to the gospel. But God is warning us about our sin nature, yet He is reassuring us of the power of His word.

Isaiah 55:10-11

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

3. What other scriptures help you understand the passages?

Storms come / it’s inevitBle.

Hebrews 5:11

Warning Against Apostasy

[11] About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Romans 10:17 - So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

4. What resonated most from Adrian's message? Why so?

5. Read Galatians 1:10 & 1 Timothy 6:6-10. How can these two “loves” hinder your spiritual receptivity? (Love of pleasing people and love of money - comforts - what would others thing leads to guilt and shame)

Galatians 1:10 - For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

1 Timothy 6:6-10

[6] But godliness with contentment is great gain, [7] for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. [8] But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. [9] But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. [10] For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

6. Which soil represents your heart these days? How are you doing as a listener to God? Connect with another group member to discuss further.

(Listening - praying / reading / studying / talking our faith with others)

7. Write down what God is impressing upon you to do in response to the passages or discussion.

Barcode Faith or a life long process of restoration and repair. Repair things and people.

For next week’s message: read and reflect on Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43, and Ephesians 2:1-10.
