How can you and I actually have inner peace when the world is going crazy? How can we keep focused on the positives when everything seems negative? Jesus, the Creator God, chose to become one of at a time when Roman rule was brutal. Ordinary citizens and non citizens lives in fear and under high taxation. But Jesus communicated hope and demonstrates a radical life of purity, saying we can do the same. He understood what ordinary people endured. He understands today’s world because ghe human heart and power of sin hasn’t changed a whole lot. We have every reason to experience peace and calmness in a broken world.
“God did not give the Bible in order that we could master him or it; God gave the Bible so we could live it, so we could be mastered by it. The moment we think we’ve mastered it, we have failed to be readers of the Bible. Of course, I think we should read the Bible and know it—but it is the specific element of reading for mastery versus reading to be mastered that grows out of this shortcut.” - Scot McKnight, The Blue Parakeet: Rethinking How You Read the Bible
