Inside Out 30

Listening to the news and being overwhelmed by the bad news wears on us. The negativity and division adds to our burnout with information. We can care about all the hurt and needs of many but it’s like we can develop compassion fatigue. As a result, I become indifferent and categorize hurting people as mere information which doesn’t affect me. The danger of indifference is being calloused and hard hearted. Indifference is the opposite of love. I’m shocked by my own indifference to the issues that bother our Father. How can I truly care when others may criticize, or my small effort may not make any difference?  But Jesus takes note to every good work born in faith that visits to prison, caring for ghost who are hurting, providing food and clothing is serving Him.

“For much of our lives, we live in the shallows. Then something happens — a crisis, a birth, a death — and we get this glimpse of tremendous depth. My soul becomes shallow when my interests and thoughts go no further than myself. A person should be deep because life itself is deep.” - John Ortberg, Soul Keeping: Caring For the Most Important Part of You
