James 7

It is very sobering to consider how our words and speech reflect our heart condition.  How does another person interpret our words?  What do they REALLY hear us saying about our lives, the world, and our relationship with our Triune God?  I read many of the comments on social media regarding the state of affairs in our culture, and I’m interpreting their words as fear and anger.  I certainly do not want our Lord to be disappointed by these two words.

“Whatever controls us is our lord. The person who seeks power is controlled by power. The person who seeks acceptance is controlled by the people he or she wants to please. We do not control ourselves. We are controlled by the lord of our lives.” - Timothy J. Keller, Counterfeit Gods
