What barriers do you and I set up for ourselves, preventing others to see the real inner self? In wisdom, we do not go around blabbing our worst sins and secrets to everyone. We need safe trusted Christ followers to confess our struggles. It is difficult to find those we can trust, but it’s so important to ask God to show us those who love us no matter what has take place, or what situations we might find ourselves. On the flip side, following Christ is to be that safe persons who loves unconditionally.
“We don't believe something by merely saying we believe it, or even when we believe that we believe it. We believe something when we act as if it were true.” - Dallas Willard, Renovation of the Heart
“The deepest pain of the human heart, deeper than the grief of loss, is the darkness and sin and pain and evil that had become a part of me and that I bring into the world. And so to experience release and relief from that is to have the largest weight in life removed.” - Become New, John Ortberg: Episode Nineteen
“Once one begins to lie to others, he will sooner or later lie to himself, and our passage deals with this (1 John 1:8). The problem now is not deceiving others, but deceiving ourselves. It is possible for a believer to live in sin yet convince himself that everything is fine in his relationship to the Lord. - Excerpt. Be Real (1 John) by Warren W. Wiersbe
