1 John 5

What prevents us from being interdependent on each other, encouraging, cheering each other on?  What are our roadblocks to deep fellowship? For me, I have often been scared of letting people see how fragile I am. I have protected myself behind my walls that it is difficult to be transparent. But what do I have to hide?  Our Triune God accepts me unconditionally. He does not scold me but gently asks me to trust Him, to step out of the shadows of my sin.

Someone who has practiced deception cannot change immediately because the sin patterns are so habituated and hidden even from themselves. Anyone who engages in abusive behavior has practiced self-deception. They have practiced avoiding the truth. To think that someone can practice a sin pattern for years and simply say “I am sorry” and be all better is to fail to see sin as our God does.” - Diane Langberg, Suffering and the Heart of God

“Light produces life and growth and beauty, but sin is darkness; and darkness and light cannot exist in the same place. If we are walking in the light, the darkness has to go. If we are holding to sin, then the light goes. There is no middle ground, no vague “gray” area, where sin is concerned.” - Excerpt, Be Real (1 John) by Warren W. Wiersbe

No man is condemned for anything he has done: he is condemned for continuing to do wrong. He is condemned for not coming out of the darkness, for not coming to the light.“ - George MacDonald
