1 John 9

Today’s study reminds me of being a character witness in a couple of court trials. Depositions were needed ahead of each trial and the opposing attorneys made every attempt to discredit my credentials as a witness. I learned a lot through those experiences. Being congruent with who I am and what I said was very important. Being authentic in faith and practice requires a thoughtful, intentional approach to what we do everyday. Will our lifestyles reflect a burden of production, the burden of proof that we are what we say we are?  We cannot control all factors but we can make every effort to live our Savior.

“This is the way we learned obedience when we were children. First, we obeyed because we had to. If we didn’t obey, we were spanked! But as we grew up, we discovered that obedience meant enjoyment and reward; so we started obeying because it met certain needs in our lives. And it was a mark of real maturity when we started obeying because of love.  “Baby Christians” must constantly be warned or rewarded. Mature Christians listen to God’s Word and obey it simply because they love Him.” - Excerpt, Be Real (1 John) by Warren W. Wiersbe
