Mark 3-2

If you and I were in the crowd next to the woman who touched Jesus’s clothing, how would we have reacted to the miracle?  I’m thinking that several in the crowd were skeptical of the woman’s healing. I am usually skeptical of stories in today’s news regarding miraculous events. However I know that it’s not wise to be cynical of what God can do, is doing or will do. Just like Mark’s eye witness account, our Triune God is intervening today, bringing His kingdom’s work to us. May our eyes and ears be open.

Jesus addressed the woman as “daughter.” Her disease had made her a virtual outcast, cut off from the covenant community, based on the teaching of the Mosaic Law. Addressing her as “daughter” communicated that she was a beloved child and a valued member of the covenant community. She had not only been healed of her disease, she had been restored to her place in the community.” - Excerpt, Following Jesus: Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark by Steve Langford

“St. Ignatius of Loyola would say, “See him, hear him, touch him, taste him, smell him.” Be fully present and become familiar. Always stay close to the invitation “Come and see,” because if you really see, if you really look around, and you really become familiar with the beauty of Jesus, you will see that the beauty of this person is his invitation to love. It is an invitation to go where he calls.” - Henri Nouwen, Following Jesus
