The Gospel

 Jesus…

1) “preexisted as God the Son,

2) was sent by the Father,

“John 5:24, Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes [pisteuōn] him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” Jesus is sent, and believing results in eternal life. Yet in assessing such statements, we must bear in mind that in John the pistis action intends more than simply believing (e.g., 2:23–24). It cannot be separated from obedience: “Whoever believes [pisteuōn] in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him” (3:36).”

3)   took on human flesh in fulfillment of God’s promises to David,

“The incarnation is theologically vital to the gospel. Jesus was sent to share in our humanity in every way (excluding sin), to be our sin offering, and to serve as our great high priest (Heb. 2:14–17; 4:15; 9:24–26). But there’s more. To reign with the king we must become like him. God placed humans as his image in the midst of creation to rule it (Gen. 1:26–28). Yet our image-bearing and its attendant glory have become distorted through idolatry (2 Kings 17:15; Ps. 115:5–8; Rom. 1:22–23; 3:23).”

4) died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,

1 Cor 15:1-2

“Salvation in process. Here Paul emphasizes that salvation is a process (“being saved”), not a once-for-all-time faith decision. This is made clear by Paul’s specific language in Greek. He says that we are “being saved,” but only if we hold fast to the gospel proclamation. ”

“We shouldn’t be astonished if it is hard to build church community and encourage discipleship within such a culture. We must proclaim the fuller truth: “The king died for our collective sins, so that we could yield allegiance.” When we do, we’ll find a community of loyal disciples emerging.”

5) was buried,

was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

      appeared to many witnesses,

is enthroned at the right hand of God as the ruling Christ,

has sent the Holy Spirit to his people to effect his rule, and

will come again as final judge to rule.”

“if you will immerse yourself in the Gospels, they will cure you of the “stiff-upper-lip” religion that is so foreign to the one who was “a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.”
