Are you and I ready for the final events before Jesus returns? Does our culture view the second coming as a real event or as an allegory to contemplate? It would seem that many of Jesus’s predictions were fulfilled when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD, but not everything. Some Bible scholars state that many of His words have a double fulfillment - what happened when Rome crushed Israel, and what will happen when He returns. Regardless, Jesus is our hope now and tomorrow. Our 12 year old grandson recently read the Book of Revelation and remarked: “We are not told all the details, but we are told enough to hope for what will happen.”
“Nothing is more often misdiagnosed than our homesickness for Heaven. We think that what we want is power, status, alcohol, a new job, a raise, a doctorate, a spouse, a large-screen television, a new car, a cabin in the woods, a condo in Hawaii. What we really want is the person we were made for, Jesus, and the place we were made for, Heaven. Nothing less can satisfy us.” - Randy Alcorn, Heaven: A Comprehensive Guide to Everything the Bible Says About Our Eternal Home
“The Temple Discourse covered a variety of topics: false messiahs, wars and rumors of war, the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem, the coming of the Son of Man to gather up and restore God’s people, and the end of the age. Did Jesus mean all these things would occur during the disciples’ lifetime? If we understand the coming of the Son of Man as a reference to the resurrection, then all the things Jesus referenced in the temple discourse did occur during the disciples’ lifetime.” - Excerpt, Following Jesus: Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark by Steve Langford
