Boldness 5 - 5/18

Biblical references like those today have concerned me about how we think about our assurance of salvation. The teaching is clear that we need to take our salvation seriously rather than minimizing how important our focus needs to be. It’s reassuring to read the statement “A lifestyle marked by wickedness, rebellion, and self-sufficiency is incompatible with Christ’s rule—and therefore a decision to spend life in that way is a decision to live outside of the borders of His kingdom.” We all make mistakes and have lapses to loving our Lord completely each day. It’s another issue to minimize faithfulness, hope and love, falling into a gross pattern of rebellion.

“The truth is that we are not good people who make mistakes; we are sinful people in need of mercy. Because it requires humility to accept what our hearts are truly like, those same hearts will tend to prefer to be deceived by preachers of self-esteem and self-confidence rather than listen to prophets such as Jeremiah.” - Alistair Begg, Truth for Life - Volume 1: 365 Daily Devotions
