Maintaining a checklist of what is expected as a Christian is not following Christ, even though I’ve followed that model for a long time. Participating in programs, teaching Sunday School, helping with church activities are important but not specifically following Jesus. Becoming a servant to our King and those He is leading is seeing the kingdom at work, moving and changing where the Spirit is working. It’s more than accumulating Bible information, and more than remotely praying for others. It’s getting involved in the messiness of becoming mature, in the messiness of others’ lives, listening, applying what I know. May the Spirit empower us to be awake to these opportunities everyday.
