Few people fully understand the role of a shepherd as we move to an urban culture. Sheep need a shepherd by their nature, often susceptible to predators, disease, and walking off the cliff. Psalm 23 depicts our need for a shepherd because we are prone to destroy ourselves by trusting all the wrong things. Just like the storm on the sea, we can be hit by a crisis out of no where. But our shepherd is the Creator who sustains us through the best and the worst. Gusting our Shepherd in the ordinary events of life train us to trust Him in the storms.
