Negatjvity

Do you remember a biblical character named Igal that took negativity to new heights? How about Palti? Shammua? Shaphat? Gaddiel? Gaddi? Ammiel? Sethur? Nahbi? Geuel? I’ll guess no one reading this post was named after these chronic complainers. These are the names of ten of the twelve spies who were sent into the Promised Land on a Reconnaissance mission for General Joshua (Numbers 13). There were two conflicting reports that came out of the mission. The majority report consisted of the opinions of ten spies while the minority report came from Joshua and Caleb. The majority report was caked with fear and all ten leaders were freaking out. There were giants in the land and the troops would be mere grasshoppers in comparison. The minority report was not pollyannaish. Caleb and Joshua recognized the obstacles but concluded that though the giants were big, God was much BIGGER. The people should take the land by faith.

We have the same choices today - fear or faith. Let’s keep our eyes upon the Lord. The size of our faith will be determined by the size of our God. If we have a BIG God, we will have a big faith. If we have a small God, we will have a small faith. Remember that majority reports are not always right, and constant negativity saps joy and hinders our prayers. Our giants will tempt us to return to the familiar rather than live the adventure.
